NEW MODEL ARMY - GREAT EXPECTATIONS
cd review by new model d.j. kirkbride

How have I never heard of New Model Army? They have that rocky, slightly Britishy, scrappy rock 'n' roll sound that I've grown to love over the years. This album is supposedly a "best of" collection. Great Expectations: The Singles Collection is probably their bestest stuff ever in the whole wide world, I'd wager.

It's good. I enjoyed it. Sometimes it-- Oh fuck. I have to go to work. Yeah, shit-ass temp job at the water company here in Milwaukee. People call in, and they're all, "Hey dere. Oh Jesus Christ, why's my bill so high? I ain't got no jeeoorrb!" or "Lawdy, lawdy! Why my bill so high?" or "How you 'spect me ta' pay this?" or "I don't use this much water, you silly sumbitch! Give me money! Give me a break! Give me a handout!" And I'm all, you know, like, "What the fuck? I ain't getting no handouts, so why should I feel for you cheeseheads?!? And do you think I have any power here? I'm a temp phone jockey who doesn't know what he's talking about half the time due to woeful lack of training!" Shit, dude. It's lame. Pays the bills. Barely. But still, I-- Oh. Sorry. This is a CD review for New Model Army's Great Expectations: The Singles Collection, isn't it?

Yeah, it's good. If you like early '80s-style rocky, new-wavey, Britishful music, dig this and dig it well. It's some fun stuff.
